Distinct self-organized actin patterns explain diverse parasite gliding modes

چکیده
During host infection, single-celled apicomplexan parasites like Plasmodium and Toxoplasma use a unique form of locomotion called gliding that differs fundamentally from the swim-or-crawl paradigm eukaryotic cell motility. Gliding is powered by thin layer actin specialized myosin sandwiched between plasma membrane an inner membranous scaffold. How this actomyosin network organized to generate coherent traction forces, drive diverse movements observed during gliding? Here, we used single-molecule imaging track individual filaments complexes in living gondii.

Arabidopsis LIM proteins: a family of actin bundlers with distinct expression patterns and modes of regulation.
Recently, a number of two LIM-domain containing proteins (LIMs) have been reported to trigger the formation of actin bundles, a major higher-order cytoskeletal assembly. Here, we analyzed the six Arabidopsis thaliana LIM proteins. Promoter-β-glucuronidase reporter studies revealed that WLIM1, WLIM2a, and WLIM2b are widely expressed, whereas PLIM2a, PLIM2b, and PLIM2c are predominantly expressed...
متن کاملScaling and regeneration of self-organized patterns.
Biological patterns generated during development and regeneration often scale with organism size. Some organisms, e.g., flatworms, can regenerate a rescaled body plan from tissue fragments of varying sizes. Inspired by these examples, we introduce a generalization of Turing patterns that is self-organized and self-scaling. A feedback loop involving diffusing expander molecules regulates the rea...
متن کاملGeometry sensing by self-organized protein patterns.
In the living cell, proteins are able to organize space much larger than their dimensions. In return, changes of intracellular space can influence biochemical reactions, allowing cells to sense their size and shape. Despite the possibility to reconstitute protein self-organization with only a few purified components, we still lack knowledge of how geometrical boundaries affect spatiotemporal pr...

The connectivity of the neocortex displays striking regularities that account for its functional specialization. Synaptic contacts reorganize during preand post-natal development via epigenetic factors involving interactions between extrinsic and intrinsic sources of neural activity. We propose a neural network that models the development of such structures as a process of spatiotemporal patter...
متن کاملSelf-organized rhythmic patterns in geochemical systems.
Chemical oscillating patterns are ubiquitous in geochemical systems. Although many such patterns result from systematic variations in the external environmental conditions, it is recognized that some patterns are due to intrinsic self-organized processes in a non-equilibrium nonlinear system with positive feedback. In rocks and minerals, periodic precipitation (Liesegang bands) and oscillatory ...
